Svetlana Taishina, a student of the 8th grade of the Aksarka village school, became the best in her native language at the Arctic Olympiad

Svetlana Taishina, a student of the 8th grade of the Aksarka village school, recently won the “Native Languages of the North” nomination of the interregional “Arctic Olympiad” in local history and native languages. The girl became a contender for the regional award supporting talented youth of Yamal.

This year, 21 schoolchildren and 3 students from 13 municipalities of Yamal, one representative of Nenets Autonomous Okrug and one representative of Krasnoyarsk Krai became participants in the Olympiad. The tasks of the Olympiad included six competitive tests in two categories: “Arctic Local History” and “Native Languages” (Khanty, Nenets, and Selkup).

Svetlana’s mentor is Olga Pando, a teacher of the Khanty language at the Aksarka village school. She has got over 30 years of teaching experience. Olga Pando has prepared about 20 prize-winners and winners of competitions in local history and native languages of the municipal, regional and all-Russian levels. Olga Pando has also developed a wide range of Olympiad tasks and collections of creative works about the history of Yamal and the culture of the peoples of the North.
