The story tells about a duck that could not land anywhere – there is water all around. Then she plucked feathers and fluff out of herself and built a nest where she laid eggs. The chicks hatched from the eggs, they grew up and followed the example of the mother duck. Their ducklings did the same. A lot of nests turned out, and an island was formed on which grass and trees grew. Leaves and needles fell from them – that’s how the earth was created. Resin fell from the larch and, as soon as it touched the ground, nivkh appeared. Orochon (uilta) came from fir, and ainu – from spruce.

Zoya Ivanovna Lyutova translated the fairy tale into the Nivkh language. Reads the work of Alexander Vladimirovna Huryun.
