The International Decade of Indigenous Languages in Yamal started with a dictation in the languages of indigenous small-numbered peoples. More than 800 Yamal participants wrote it at a time on February 21, 2022.

For the first time in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous okrug, the texts were prepared in seven dialects of four indigenous languages: the Khanty language (168 participants) with its Shuryshkar, Ural and Surgut dialects; the Nenets language (532 participants) with its tundra and forest dialects; the Izhma dialect of the Komi language (38 participants) and the Selkup language (77 participants).

The geographical scope of Yamal in-person participants consisted of 40 sites throughout the region including Salekhard, Nadym, Novy Urengoy, Muravlenko, Noyabrsk, Gubkinsky, Tarko-Sale, Labytnangi, Tazovsky, Krasnoselkup, Ratta, Tolka, Nyda, Kutopyugan, Muzhi, Ovgort, Shuryshkar, Azov, Gorki, Yar-Sale, Seyakha, Salemal, Panaevsk, Novy Port, Cape Kamennyi, Kharampur, Samburg, Khalyasavey and others.

The sites were organized in museums, libraries, schools, boarding schools, institutions of culture and leisure facilities. The dictation was also held online.

Expert readers including five teachers of native languages from schools and colleges and two chief editors of regional media printed in the languages of the peoples of the North professionally voiced the dictation texts.

The oldest participant of the dictation was 81 years old. The youngest one was a child of 10.
