The expert seminar was held to propose and discuss concrete initiatives to be implemented within action plans for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages at local, regional, national and international levels. The organizers set the task of informing the expert community about the priorities and goals of the International Decade, developing proposals for the implementation of the Decade’s goals at local and regional levels in the Russian Federation, exchanging best practices in the field of preservation, revitalization and digitalization of native languages of Indigenous peoples. The experts also developed proposals and recommendations, which are set out in this outcome document and sent to UNESCO, the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and other interested organizations.

The opening event of the IDIL (2022–2032) in Latvia will take place in the Livonian National House in Mazirbe hosted by the UL Livonian Institute, Latvian National Commission for UNESCO and Livonian community. Symbolically the opening event will combine one of the most unique Livonian traditions – bird awakening – and initiatives of establishing Livonian language and culture in the digital environment. Event will be attended by high-level representatives from the Government of Latvia and UNESCO.

UNESCO is organizing a webinar on “Quality, Inclusive and equitable Open Educational Resources (OER)” on the International Day of Education. The objective of the webinar is to raise awareness and share knowledge on the OER Recommendation Action Area 3 Encouraging effective, inclusive and equitable access to quality OER and to highlight innovative and inspiring initiatives and practices at institutional or national level. The session will focus on accessibility and inclusion including multilingualism and will highlight the opening International Decade of Indigenous languages (IDIL 2022-2032) and the new Guidelines on the inclusion of learners with disabilities in open and distance learning (ODL). Each speaker will address one of these kea questions: - How can collective efforts in the development of appropriate, local, multilingual OER can drive education and information in the opening International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022-2032)? - How ODL and OER can be a game changer for education of PWD ? - How to enhance accessibility of OER and overcome the digital divide and connectivity issues in Francophone Africa ?
