The second edition of the States General of Local Languages: Beyond All Expectations!

Are you ready for an event that promises to go beyond all limits? After the success of last year’s conference, the States General of Local Languages is back with a new edition that aims to explore the surprising possibilities for the development and valorisation of local, regional and minority languages in Italy. If you thought you’d seen it all, prepare to be amazed!

Over the past year, we have drawn an essential picture of the situation of local languages, revealing both the challenges and the opportunities that present themselves. However, we are not satisfied with this. This year, we will focus on exceeding any current expectations and discover how local languages can reach new heights of exploitation and implementation.

The conference will have an unforgettable start with a weighty keynote, probably delivered by a distinguished figure like Ventura, who will introduce us to the perspectives and expectations of local, regional and minority languages. But we don’t stop there. We want to offer a complete academic overview, involving industry experts, who will share their knowledge and reflections on the current situation of local languages.

We will start the day with a very interesting conversation that will take us through the state of Local Languages in Italy in 2023. It will be a unique opportunity to delve into the perspectives and progress made so far.

One of the central themes of the conference will be local language education. We will explore the different possible educational models and we will have the honor of listening to panelists of great importance, and representatives of different educational realities. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to work in dedicated laboratories, planning educational activities in the local language and presenting them at the end of the workshop.

The power of social media in promoting local languages will be another key topic we will address. We will have a panel of experts who will guide us in understanding how the public reacts and how an online community is formed and behaves. During the dedicated workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create social media content in the local language and present it briefly.

Scientific dissemination in the local language will be another fascinating area that we will explore. With the contribution of high caliber panelists, we will explore how to dispel myths and spread scientific knowledge through local languages. Furthermore, we will address the importance of an intersectional approach in the fight for local languages, involving various activists.

Local language music will feature prominently in the conference. We will explore the musical tradition reinterpreted in a contemporary key, mixing ancient words and sounds with modern rhythms and notes. We will have the honor of presenting a variety of emerging and consolidated artists who will take us through their stories and performances.

A crucial aspect of local languages is their diffusion in institutions and in the political context. We will face the challenge of how to promote the local language in a legal framework that is still strongly nationalist. We will invite courageous politicians and representatives, together with academics and experts who will guide us in finding innovative solutions to move forward.

Finally, we will immerse ourselves in the scriptures in the local language, exploring the Italian TV series and beyond, which use the local languages as a tool of expression. From the best-known products, to works that bring less widespread local languages to TV.

We will conclude the conference with an engaging workshop, where participants will have the opportunity to translate a local-language literary text into their own language, thus allowing for a unique and fascinating cultural exchange.

Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the second edition of the States General of Local Languages. An event that will take you beyond all expectations, opening new horizons for local, regional and minority languages in Italy. Join us and together we will explore a world of possibilities that goes beyond any linguistic border!
