Book and illustrative exhibition “Language is the soul of the people”

Russia is rich in peoples. They speak different languages, adhere to different customs and traditions, have their own history, but they are all united by fraternal feelings for a common Homeland. Russia values the culture of the peoples who inhabit it, and our children should know not only the history of their state, but also the traditions of national culture, understand them and honor them. The bibliographic game “Unique Peoples”, dedicated to the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, is organized in order to introduce children to the multinational population of the Russian Federation through the game and skills of working with reference literature. To complete the tasks, the participants of the game were offered books, encyclopedias, visual materials. During the event, the children answered quiz questions, got acquainted with books by writers of the peoples of Russia and the former republics of the Soviet Union, dressed up paper dolls in national clothes, understood ancient types of Russian folk crafts (wood painting), looked for answers to questions from reference books and encyclopedias. In conclusion, the children played folk games.
The exhibition “Language is the soul of the people” accompanied the game. It presents books, dictionaries, phrasebooks, texts of works with grammar and spelling, which help in the study and preservation of the national language of the Nivkhs, Uylt, Evenks, Nanais – representatives of the Sakhalin Oblast KMNS. The primer “Wiltadarisu”, “The Russian-Wilt phrasebook” by E. Bibikova, the Uyltin game-nursery rhyme “Bird-Tit” and other books are the first printed editions of one of the smallest peoples of Russia – the Uylt, whose language until recently existed only in oral form. The exhibition presents editions of the founder of the national Nivkh literature V. M. Sangi: an audio disc of the writer’s fairy tales, where under one cover there is a collection of fairy tales in the Nivkh and Russian languages. Collections with original texts translated from Nivkh into Russian, recorded by talented storytellers T. Ulita, L. Muvchik, N. Tanzina, are also shown here. A special place at the exhibition is occupied by publications of the model central library – the bio-bibliographic index “Living Springs” and “Fairy Tales and stories of Grandmother Kalrik” by R. D. Agmina.
