Originaria: Showcase of Indigenous Peoples’ Cinema is a unique cultural event taking place on December 6, 7 and 8 in Puebla, Mexico. Organized in collaboration with the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) Puebla, the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), and various embassies, this festival aims to create a space for dialogue and reflection on the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous communities.

The main goal of the showcase is to amplify the voices of Indigenous peoples through a curated selection of feature films, short films, and documentaries that depict their stories, challenges, and contributions. These works address critical issues such as the impact of climate change on their territories, their ongoing efforts to protect natural resources, the preservation of sacred sites, and the importance of safeguarding their languages and cultural traditions.

In addition to film screenings, Originaria fosters cultural exchange through panel discussions, filmmaker meet-and-greets, and workshops that explore how cinema can serve as a tool to raise awareness of the struggles and achievements of Indigenous communities. The event not only celebrates the richness of cultural diversity but also highlights the vital role Indigenous peoples play in building a sustainable and harmonious future.

The showcase invites audiences to immerse themselves in authentic narratives, told from within the communities, and to reflect on their connection to global issues like climate change and social justice. Don’t miss this inspiring event!
