Languages: Northern Selkup

By the decision of the Expert Council in the area of folklore of the indigenous peoples of the North of Yamal-Nenets autonomous okrug, Zoya Karsavina from the village of Tolka, Krasnoselkupsky district, became the “Master of the Folklore Genre of the Selkup People”.

Zoya Karsavina is a teacher of her native (Selkup) language at the Ratta boarding school. Together with pupils, she implements projects related to the preservation and promotion of the Selkup culture, language and folklore; collects local history data, works with archival documents.

Her pupils are winners and prize-winners of various literary and creative competitions. They perform fairy tales, rituals, and recite poetry in the Selkup language.

This collaborative platform was established to enable the community of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022–2032) to share events, activities, and resources. The content published on the platform is the responsibility of registered users and does not commit the Secretariat of the Decade (UNESCO) and/or the Members of the Global Task Force for Making a Decade of Action for Indigenous Languages. Please note that the platform has been inactive since February 2025 and no longer accepts new uploads.
