Salekhard has hosted the Days of Culture of the Komi-Zyryan people for the first time. More than 100 delegates and guests from Komi Republic, Khanty-Mansi, Nenets and Yamal-Nenets autonomous okrugs, Murmansk and Tyumen regions took part in the events on February 10 and 11.

Among the participants there were social activists and experts in culture, folk traditions and languages, as well as youth. They were given master classes, saw the traditional way of tying a woman’s headdress (“baba-yur”), attended an interactive lesson on the Komi language, learned more about applying prints to the fabric and traditional Komi folk games. Delegates took part in a creative session and developed project proposals in the field of their native languages, culture and crafts of the Komi.

The two-day program of the event included working meetings and speeches by regional language activists, invited experts, documentary film screenings, visits to Salekhard museums, creative workshops and performances by folklore groups. The main events of the program were held at the Regional Center for National Cultures. The youth from the participating regions met at the welcome “cholöm-meeting”.

During the event, the people of Yamal presented best practices in learning the Komi language. For example, the teacher of the Yamal multidisciplinary college Irina Terentyeva told about the mechanism of quick learning of Komi words.

During the event, everyone who wished recorded a video message in their native language. As a result of the event, a video in the Komi language was created.
