The event “Presentation of the Russian-English-Nivkh audio dictionary” was the final link of the project “Symphony of Nivkh Words” of the Municipal Budget Institution of Culture of the Noglik Centralized Library System. The objectives of this project and event are: preservation of the sound form of the East Sakhalin dialect of the Nivkh language; expansion of the 2019 speaking Nivkh dictionary by one thousand words; creation of a Russian-English-Nivkh audio dictionary program for mobile phones.
The event was attended by more than thirty people interested in the language and culture of the Nivkh people. The host of the event, Tatyana Viktorovna Sitnikova, told the audience about the peoples inhabiting the Sakhalin region, about famous countrymen from the peoples of the North, about the unique culture of the aborigines.
In her welcoming speech, the director of the library Olga Evgenievna Rozhnova stressed how interesting and unusual the Nivkh language is and how important it is to work on its preservation.
Project manager Inga Valeryevna Krasilnikova told about the work on the project, the difficulties and positive aspects that have arisen, demonstrated how the dictionary works.
Everyone who wants to immediately, at the event, under the guidance of the library staff, installed an application with a Russian-English-Nivkh audio dictionary on their phones. A shared photo and a tea party completed the presentation.
The creation of the Nivkh audio dictionary aroused great interest and response from representatives of the Nivkh people. They constantly use the program, thank the library staff for this project.
