Community event - Language and Literature Olympiad

On 14-15 November, in order to identify gifted and talented students with profound knowledge of the Ossetian language and Ossetian literature, to form a sustainable interest in the study of the Ossetian language and Ossetian literature, to foster respect for the Ossetian language and Ossetian literature among the younger generation as an important component of national culture, the Ossetian Language and Ossetian Literature Olympiad is held annually in general education institutions of RNO-Alania in three stages:

School stage – for students in grades 3-11;

Municipal stage – for students in grades 7-11;

The republican (final) stage for students in grades 9-11.

The Ossetian Language Olympiad is held separately for students who speak Ossetian and students who do not speak Ossetian. The Olympiad in the academic subject ‘Ossetian Literature’ is held for students who speak the Ossetian language.

In the academic year 2024/25, the school stage of the school Olympiad in the Ossetian language and Ossetian literature was held on 14 and 15 November, with the participation of students in grades 3-11 of the country’s educational institutions. A total of 13,233 students participated. Of these:

Ossetian literature – 3,706 students;

Ossetian language – 9,527 students, of whom 5,804 were Ossetian-speaking students and 3,723 were nonOssetian-speaking students.

The municipal stage of the Olympiad will be attended by students in grades 7-11 of educational organisations who are winners and runners-up of the school stage of the Olympiad.

This collaborative platform was established to enable the community of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022–2032) to share events, activities, and resources. The content published on the platform is the responsibility of registered users and does not commit the Secretariat of the Decade (UNESCO) and/or the Members of the Global Task Force for Making a Decade of Action for Indigenous Languages. Please note that the platform has been inactive since February 2025 and no longer accepts new uploads. While work is underway to provide an updated solution, the Secretariat of IDIL 2022–2032 remains available for any inquiries at: indigenous.languages@unesco.org.
