Community event - Language Lessons

Languages: N|uu

N|uu is a critically endangered language of the ǂKhomani people, Northern Cape, South Africa. It is currently being taught in two locations, Upington and Andriesvale. The Upington class happen 3 times per week and are taught by Dr Katrina Esau (the last fully fluent speaker of the language who is 91 years old) and her granddaughter Claudia Snyman. These classes are funded by the Palms for Life Fund and include teachers salaries, transport and a healthy meal at each lesson. These N|uu lessons are a lifeline to the language and a beautiful opportunity for intergenerational language learning. In the Kalahari, in a small town called Andrievale, N|uu is taught by Sussie Bok at the Eland school and Kopan ECD. Regular lessons are helping affirm cultural identity, especially for your children and a safe place to practice the language.
