On November 22, 2023, a meeting of the Advisory Council on Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs under the Committee on Local Self-Government, Interethnic and Interfaith Relations of the Leningrad Region was held.Topical issues and plans for 2024 were discussed at the meeting.Maria Romanova, head of the autonomous non-profit organization “Cultural Environment”, Elena Kostrova, head of the municipal state cultural institution “Izhora Museum” and Dmitry Kharaka-Zaitsev, Chairman of the territorial and public self-government “Community of the Small People of Izhora “Shoikula”, told about modern practices of preserving the ethnocultural identity of the indigenous peoples of Vodi and Izhora. Ksenia Reshetova, a teacher of the Izhora language at Vistinsky Secondary School, spoke about new approaches to the preservation and study of the Vodsky and Izhorsky languages. The celebrations, which are organized annually with the support of the committee, expand the audience: representatives of various nations come to them more and more often. And this trend will be maintained in the coming year.
