On March 17, in Dimitrovgrad, on the basis of MBOU secondary school No. 2, the Interregional Conference “Avksenty Filippovich Yurtov – the first educator of the Mordovian people” was held.
The conference was attended by participants from different cities and villages of the Ulyanovsk region, as well as representatives of the executive bodies of state power, the regional Center for the Development of Education, national-cultural autonomies, teachers, journalists.
There were exhibition sites dedicated to Avksenty Filippovich Yurtov, his heritage, and the culture of the Mordovian people; workshops on applied art were organized.
Sergey Pakhovsky, Head of the Department for Nationalities and Interfaith Relations of the Administration of the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region, Vladimir Sofonov, Chairman of the Ulyanovsk Regional Mordovian National Cultural Autonomy and Deputy Mayor of the City of Dimitrovgrad Lyudmila Shishkina, honorary citizens from the Republic of Mordovia addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech.

“Each nation has given the world great people – writers, artists, scientists. Their activity embodies the flowering of national culture, the appeal of the people to education. For the Mordovian people, one of these people was the clergyman Avksenty Filippovich Yurtov, at the same time – a teacher, public educator, philosopher, translator, ethnographer, folklorist. What Avksenty Yurtov did for the people is a great historical feat,” Sergey Pakhovsky noted.
Within the framework of the conference, several sectional sites worked. A wide range of issues related to the support and development of national cultures, the study of native languages was proposed for discussion. Among the key topics are the interaction of national public organizations, the implementation of the ethno-cultural component in the educational process, the introduction of preschoolers and schoolchildren to the history, traditions, customs and culture of the Mordovian people.
In a solemn atmosphere, letters of thanks were presented to representatives of various fields who made a great contribution to the preservation and popularization of the culture of the Mordovian people. Among the awardees is the head of the city public organization “Mordovia National Cultural Autonomy of Dimitrovgrad” Anna Nuyanzina.
