Festival of Slavic Culture in the International Library

On May 25, 2024, a Festival of Slavic Culture was held in Yekaterinburg, dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture.
The Day of Slavic Writing and Culture is a reminder of the unity of the Slavic peoples, about the common origin, traditions, customs and a single cultural space. This is the day of remembrance of Equal-to-the-Apostles Saints Cyril and Methodius, who compiled the first Slavic alphabet and translated liturgical books into the Slavic language, thereby laying the foundations of Slavic writing.
“The festival of Slavic Culture will be able to contribute to the formation of a sense of common cultural interests among Slavic peoples and states, actualization and increase interest in the traditional culture of Russia in general and the Middle Urals in particular among the younger generation. fostering patriotism based on the cultural heritage of the Slavic peoples in all its diversity,” the organizers of the Festival say.
The festival opened with a lecture by Archpriest Alexander Sandyrev on the origins of the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. Father Alexander is the rector of the Church of St. George the Victorious, the confessor of the Yekaterinburg Suvorov Military School.
The key event of the Festival of Slavic Culture was the author’s solo performance by Ekaterina Ryazhskikh “On the Vyak, as on the taka”. Ekaterina Ryazhskikh is a singer, actress and blogger. The author of unique projects based on Russian traditional culture for adults and children. Winner of All-Russian and International competitions.
The personal performance “On the Vyak, as on the Taka” was created on the basis of the ethnographic records of Ekaterina Ryazhskaya. The author traveled around the villages and villages of the Terbunsky district and recorded the life stories of grandmothers, then picked up songs of the Lipetsk region from her recordings and from publications by other folklorists and began preparing for the production. In this production, there are living stories of people about life, death, joy and love, but the red thread runs through the thought: “Thank God for both sorrow and joy!”.
In 2020, the play won the Grand Prix of the International Theater Festival “Christmas Parade”, in 2022 it became a participant in the theater festival “Time of Memory”, and in 2023 it received a special jury prize of the charity award “Living Together”.
The director of the play is Panferova Tatyana Nikolaevna. The concertmaster is Igor Seredkin, the leading methodologist for musical folklore at the Center for Traditional Folk Culture of the Middle Urals.
The literary and musical program “The Power of Tradition” introduced the audience to the diversity of folklore and musical creativity of the Slavic peoples.
Throughout the day, the guests of the festival were waiting for the national estates of the Slavic peoples, representing their traditional culture, where they could taste dishes of Slavic cuisine. Everyone could take part in the master classes.
The festival ended with the quest game “A Tale of a journey to the Faraway Kingdom”, dedicated to the folklore of the Slavs.
