On September 26, the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology held a seminar dedicated to the celebration of International Translator’s Day.
The seminar was attended by students, undergraduates and teachers of the Department of Baltic-Finnish Philology. At the event, 8 reports were made on the features of translation activities and the role of the translator in relations between peoples.
Director of the Institute of Philology O.G. Abramova made a welcoming speech and also shared her experience of working as a simultaneous interpreter.
Senior Lecturer S.V. Korobeynikova spoke about the history of translation and about famous translators of Karelia who translated from/to Finnish, Associate Professor M.V. Kazakova presented a report on the translators of the epic poem “Kalevala” into Russian.
Teacher T.A. Morozova analyzed the features of audiovisual translation in Karelia.
Master’s students of the department of Baltic-Finnish philology V. Grafova and D. Balandin spoke about famous translators from/to Karelian and Vepsian languages, and students of the department N. Abramova and T. Guzeva recalled the history of literary translation and the specifics of working as a translator at the UN.
