For the first time this year, the Murmansk region took part in the event, where the Karelian language is taught by Alena Tyullinen, a graduate of PetrSU in 2023.
The graduate moved to the Murmansk region six months ago and works as a teacher at school No. 1 in the city of Severomorsk. At the beginning of the school year, Alena organized an elective in the Karelian language for students in grades 6–7.
“Schoolchildren master the basics of the Livvik dialect of the Karelian language. The guys really like to get acquainted with the Karelian language; we study it in a free form, without grades. I tell the kids about the culture of Karelia, mythology, we read “Kalevala”, we even took part in a competition for reading the “Kalevala” runes from the Scientific Library of PetrSU,
– said Alena Tyullinen.
In the capital of the republic, the central platform was Petrozavodsk State University – the Scientific Library of PetrSU and the Museum of the History of the University. Here, more than 70 participants of different ages tested their writing skills in Karelian and Vepsian languages. Among them are students and schoolchildren of educational organizations, representatives of scientific and cultural institutions, public associations and businesses, and media in national languages.
Yuri Mikhailovich Mugachev is 88 years old. This is the third time he has taken part in such dictations. It is very important for him to preserve his language.
This year has been declared by the President of the Russian Federation as the Year of the Family. Therefore, the texts of the dictations are dedicated to family traditions and values.
“We say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the event: the authors of the texts, presenters, employees of the Scientific Library of PetrSU, media representatives and, of course, everyone who came to write the dictation. With all our hearts we would like to wish success in writing a dictation to all participants in 65 sites in the Republic of Karelia, Tver, Vologda, Leningrad and Murmansk regions,
– noted the organizers of the action.
Let us remind you that the campaign has been held since 2013, and this year marks the 35th anniversary of the approval of the alphabets of the Karelian and Vepsian languages. Participants will write dictations until April 26 inclusive. Results will appear approximately a week after the end of the promotion.
The organizer of the event is the Ministry of National and Regional Policy of the Republic of Karelia together with the Regional Public Organization “Union of the Karelian People”, the Karelian Regional Public Organization “Society of Vepsian Culture”, Petrozavodsk State University, State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company “Karelia”.
